Blackheads become one of the most common problem that appear on people’s face nowadays. It is a black small bump which appears because of the clogged up of hair follicles, a pile of dead skin cells, dust, and makeup residue. Basically, blackheads has white color, however, there are some of them that changes into black and yellow bump.

According to Rachel Nazarian, a dermatologist of Schweiger Dermatology Group in New York City, blackheads are merely an oxidized combination of oil and dead skin cells that are sitting in pores, and the influence to air is what cause blackheads to oxidize and turn black. This might be lead into a opinion that people with oily skin are more vulnerable to blackheads, yet anyone can get them. 

When you think that a bump in your face is a blackheads, it is better to get some prevention. Why? Because blackheads can change into acne if you do not prevent it. Then, before getting into the way of how to prevent blackheads, let’s move to the cause of this skin disease. 

The causes of blackheads 

Blackheads usually appears in the surface of skin which has hair such as face, neck, back, chest and nose How can you know that a bump in your face is blackheads? The main sign of blackheads is the appearance of small and dark bump in your face and makes the skin texture lifted up but tends to flat than acne. You may think that you do not have one of the factors above and you’ll be safe from blackheads, however, it does not mean that you are free from this skin disease. There is no guarantee that you will not get blackheads in your skin although many product and techniques claim to prevent or remove blackheads, but not all of them have undergone scientific testing. Then, to help you prepare yourself before this skin disease reach you, here are some tips to prevent blackheads. 

  • Cleanse your face regularly 

Always cleanse your face before and after sleeping using the right face soap can help you to remove a pile of oil that causes blackheads. Do not wash your face more than two times in a day since it can increase the risk of skin irritation. You can also do double cleansing to prevent this skin disease. This process is a must to do, mainly after using heavy makeup. Besides facial wash, you can also cleanse your face using another product, such as makeup remover that contains salicylic acid cleanser. This kind of product can help you to dissolve oil, makeup, dust, and pollution that stick into your face. 

  • Washing your hair everyday 

This tips can be done for those who have oily hair. The hair oil can be the cause of clogged facial pores. 

  • Keep your hands and nails clean

Why you have to do this? Because by keeping your hands and nails clean, you can avoid the dirt from your hands or nails move to your skin surface, especially face. 

  • Make sure your pillow case and sheets clean

Always wash you pillow case and sheets at least one time a week. By changing your pillow case and sheets, the rest of dirt and oil in your bed will disappear. According to some researches, although it cannot be seen obviously, bacteria and virus often stick into your pillow case and sheets. Therefore, keep these two things clean is a must to prevent blackheads. 

  • Avoid consuming food that contain sugar and fat 

Try to quit from this behaviour if you have it, consuming food with sugar and fat will increase the risk of getting this skin disease. Therefore, it will be better if you reduce and even quit from this activity so you can decrease the oil production in your face.

  • Use skin treatment product to take off the dead skin 

Skin mask and another skin treatment product which contains scrub can help you to take off the dead skin. You can use an exfoliating scrub to help you remove dead skin cells that contribute to blackheads. Use the scrub on wet skin once a week, however, if you get irritated when using the product, you can stop using it. 

  • Use skin treatment product which does not contain oil 

Avoid cosmetics, lotion, sunscreen, and another makeup product which contains oil, because oil can cause blackheads. 

  • Avoid cigarette smoke 

To prevent blackheads, you also have avoid the cigarette smoke exposure. According to some experts, there is a connection between the chemicals in cigarette smoke and the physical process of blackheads and other features of acne. Get out from cigarette smoke exposure can help to improve the appearance and heath of the skin. 

  • Use non-comedogenic products

Do not use makeup or skin treatment product randomly. Make sure to buy a product which has non-comedogenic label in order to avoid facial pores clogged. Therefore, read carefully the product package before buying it. 

How to get rid of blackheads 

Although you have tried hard to prevent blackheads, sometimes it just happens and you cannot avoid it. As previously stated, anyone can get it. So, if you have already struggled with blackheads, here are some tips of how to get rid of blackheads. 

How to remove blackheads

First, you can use benzoyl peroxide cream which can be found easily in market or pharmacy. If the used of this creams does not really help you to get rid of blackheads, it will be better if your visit doctor to get a consultation. Dermatologist can give you cream that contains azelaic acid, tretinoin, or adapalene to prevent the facial pores clogged up and speed up the process or skin regeneration. 

Secondly, if cream does not give a better result, you can go to dermatologist and do these methods, such as: 

  • Remove blackheads manually 
  • Laser therapy 
  • Peeling 
  • Micro-dermabrasion 

Besides, you can also use some natural methods to get rid of blackheads. Using natural material such as:  

  • Egg white mask 

Egg white mask that stick into your skin will help to take off the dirt and dead skin, includes blackheads. This material also help you to clean facial pores and skin tightening. 

  • Aloe vera gel
